TrackField97 was at the England Athletics U20, U17 & U15 Championships last weekend as we continue to network throughout the UK and we had the opportunity to see the British U20 double (60m & 200m) sprint champion Dina Asher-Smith in action.
In recent times in the UK and around the world, we have been seeing a pretty impressive rise of young athletes coming on the scene and holding their own with senior athletes and the world elites and after seeing Asher-Smith in action we can assure you that this young sprint sensation is definitely one to watch for o the world stage in the future.
On day 1 of the championships, Asher Smith destroyed the rest of the field in the U20 women’s 60m final but due to a faulty timing system she was only able to get a hand timed result for her efforts. This was not to be the case on the U20 200m final as she lowered her very one British record of 23.20 seconds which she set only a month ago. The record now stands at 23.15 which is just 1/100th of a second outside of her outdoor PB.
The future looks very bright for the Blackheath and Bromley athlete and her lead coach John Blackie is definitely doing something right so 2 thumbs up to him. Looking forward to a great summer and long-term progression by this athlete as she is definitely “One to watch For”!
